I have the sims2 double deluxe. And i want to install university. but everytime i try to do it a warning pops up saying something about it will create saved games in a different format from my currently installed games, and then it says it is recommended i back up my sims 2 saved games. I dont know what exactly backing up is or how to do it. I dont even know why it says that in the first place. I'd really appreciate anyone's help for instructions or any other solutions to this!

Answer:It basically is warning you to save your current games somewhere else (even on a disc or an external hard-drive) because the university expansion pack will make the current game different…mine says this everytime I add a new expansion pack too. I think it's basically because once you install the expansion pack, there are new items added to the store and new towns, etc so it changes the file you last saved, when you had just the double deluxe. So then if you are worried about losing your files you may want to back it up in case the installation messes up or you are not happy with the university pack, then you can just reload your old double deluxe files and have them not affected by the university pack.
That's my understanding of it anyway. I'm no computer nerd or anything. But I have I think 6 or 7 Sims 2 expansion packs (pets, university, bon voyage, university, double deluxe, mansion and garden, ikea, teen stuff…almost every one there is) and it always tells me to back up my files, and I never do. And guess what, it's been fine and I've been playing it for years now without backing up files. It's not necessary, it's just a precaution you might wanna take.
