I want to use a rotary tool with a glass cutting wheel to cut the top off of a wine bottle to use as a drinking glass. Is it necessary or advisable to anneal the glass after cutting it? I know very little about working with glass so I want to do things safely and the right way. Please help and thanks for your time.

Answer:I don't think so. A few years ago I used a carbide hacksaw blade to do the same thing with rolling rock beer bottles, and they were fine. The blade wasn't toothed, it was like bits of carbide crumbs were glued to it. I got it at sears.
